I conducted a survey asking what you think about this electronic book reader and whether you know what it is. Some responded that they were not familiar with the term. That’s why I’m here, so we can all learn, grow, and explore together. Let’s get started.

What is a Kindle?

Kindle is a sleek, lightweight device with a touch-sensitive screen, designed by Amazon, that allows users to connect to their Amazon account and download e-books. It replicates the look and feel of a traditional book on a digital screen, making reading on the go practical and enjoyable.

 Advantages of Owning a Kindle:

1. Adjustable Settings

Kindle offers various options for adjusting text font and lighting according to individual preferences. You can switch between white and warm light, with options for automatic adjustment at certain times. This makes it ideal for nighttime reading.

2. Compact and Portable

The Kindle is very thin and lightweight, making it easy to fit in almost any bag, making it convenient to carry and use.

3. Impressive Battery Life

With a battery life of up to 10 weeks (depending on usage, according to the manufacturer), the Kindle requires infrequent charging. Usually, it lasts a week or two with regular, daily use, such as on vacation where you might read for 4-5 hours a day, which is still great!

4. Waterproof Design

The Kindle Paperwhite has an IPX8 rating, meaning it can withstand immersion in up to two meters of fresh water for up to 60 minutes and up to 0.25 meters of seawater for 3 minutes. This makes it perfect for reading in the bath or at the beach—although I personally wouldn’t do that. 😀 However, it’s good to know that you can if you’re comfortable enough.

5. Access to a Library

By connecting to your Amazon account, users can access all e-books. This is particularly convenient for us in Serbia, where access to some new books is quite limited. Purchases are made directly from the Kindle in one step, and within a few seconds, you have a book ready to read.

6. Annotation Capability

Users can annotate favorite passages or quotes by highlighting and adding notes, similar to a traditional book.

7. Glare-Free Reading

The Kindle’s screen is designed to be glare-free, making reading much easier in bright sunlight, such as when lying on the beach.

8. Integration with Goodreads

Users can connect their Goodreads account to the Kindle, allowing you to update your reading progress and rate books.

9. Takes Up Less Space

If you have a smaller home and a nook for storing books, then the Kindle is the right solution. It can hold 6,000 books if it’s 16GB, like the one I bought.

Disadvantages of Owning a Kindle:

1. Lack of Physical Characteristics

The Kindle doesn’t replicate the tactile feel of paper, the visit to the library/bookstore, or the smell of paper books, which I personally love. Especially old and worn-out books, and when flipping through the pages, you hear that fine crackling.

2. Dependence on the Internet

Downloading new books requires an internet connection, which can be inconvenient when Wi-Fi is not available.

3. Electronic Device Limitations

As an electronic device, the Kindle needs to be charged and is susceptible to damage. Therefore, when purchasing, immediately get a protective screen glass because I read reviews that it scratches easily, as well as a Smart Magnet Case. Accessories cost about a thousand or two dinars, and you’ll be sure your device is protected.

4. No Color Screen

The Kindle’s black-and-white screen might not be suitable for those who prefer colorful illustrations.

5. Higher Initial Cost:

Although the initial cost of a Kindle is higher, it can lead to long-term savings compared to buying physical books.

I received many questions about the specific model I bought: “Kindle Paperwhite 11 16GB 6.8 N”.

I must tell you that I actually bought the Kindle as a birthday present for my husband, but I’ve been using it constantly for a week now and haven’t put it down. 🙂

I really like every aspect of it, and if anyone is still considering it—and this is coming from someone who loves holding a book in their hands—you have my warm recommendation! And of course, if you’re building your library, it’s entirely legitimate to still visit the bookstore and buy books or stumble upon a good sale of old books and arrange them on the shelves to admire. Because who says we have to limit ourselves! 🙂

Prednosti posedovanja Kindle-a:

1.Prilagodljiva podesavanja

2.Kompaktan i prenosiv

Kindle je vrlo tanak i lagan, sto omogucava da stane u gotovo svaku torbu, cineci ga pogodnim za nosenje i upotrebu gde god i kad god pozelite.

3.Impresivno trajanje baterije

5.Pristup biblioteci

9.Zauzimanje manje prostora

Mane posedovanja Kindle-a:

1.Nedostatak fizickih karakteristika
